Self-declared as "The Internet's Oldest Directory", best of the web (or BoTW) has evolved from a student project to a full-grown corporation. They hand pick some of the highest quality web pages to include in their directory, and allow other sites to submit their URLs for editorial review for a nominal fee. Best of the Web recently hired top talent editors with years of experience editing directories such as the Open Directory Project (dmoz.org) and Zeal (Looksmart's now defunct project), with the goal of increasing the quality and quantity of their directory index. Best of the Web is arguably become the best general directory resource on the web.
